Key Points
- Concentration is sometimes called "amount concentration" or "molar concentration" to avoid confusion with number concentration (the number of particles per unit volume).
- The net quantity of heat transferred to phase ' during an infinitesimal time interval is ¶q' D P "¤' ¶q'".
- The experimental data are used to determine the value of U.IBP; T2/, the internal energy change of the isothermal bomb process at the final temperature of the reaction.
- The half-life of a first-order reaction is often expressed as t1/2 = 0.693/k (as ln(2)≈0.693).
- A reaction is said to be second order when the overall order is two.
- For zero-order reactions, the reaction rate is independent of the concentration of a reactant, so that changing its concentration has no effect on the rate of the reaction.
