Key Points

  • A multiplexer is often used with a complementary demultiplexer on the receiving end.
  • Combinational logic is used in computer circuits to perform Boolean algebra on input signals and on stored data.
  • Even though it is a bit more abstract, the T-sdiagram is very useful for describing what happens inside machines because it is easy to plot and allows us to visualize directly the irreversibility, which is always undesirable for the engineer.
  • The states approached in the limit as we carry out the compression more and more slowly are equilibrium states, occurring in the reverse sequence of the states for expansion at infinite slowness.
  • The sum of Xm for these three steps is the desired quantity vapXı or subXı.
