- A monohybrid cross is a cross between two organisms with different variations at one genetic locus of interest.
- To exemplify this, imagine a dihybrid cross involving flower color and plant height in which the genes are next to each other on the chromosome.
- For a trihybrid cross, writing out the forked-line method is tedious, albeit not as tedious as using the Punnett-square method.
- To prepare a Punnett square, all possible combinations of the parental alleles are listed along the top (for one parent) and side (for the other parent) of a grid, representing their meiotic segregation into haploid gametes.
- Unlike mitosis, meiosis does change the genotype of cells because whole chromosomes are recombined and also exchanged their genetic material.
